The back is inscribed with the name of Hekate in Greek, with the Wheel of the Goddess above. The Triple-Headed Goddess, is depicted holding torches and dagger, holds a deep connection to balance and magickal initiation. Hecate is balanced in having aspects of the demonic and divine. 

Hecate is the goddess of witchcraft, necromancy, the Moon and the night. She is the guardian of the crossroads, the Triple Goddess wielding the power of transformation and renewal. She can cross from the underworld to the physical world with ease.

This talisman is based on a design from a 2nd to 3rd century Hellenistic coin from Phrygia, Apameia in Asia Minor/Anatolia/Turkey, the very land from which the cultus of Hekate grew in renown and power in antiquity. 

Hekate is an ancient goddess of the night, witchcraft and ghosts. Her three parts are described:

"Hekate Einodia, Trioditis, lovely dame, of earthly, watery, and celestial frame, sepulchral, in a saffron veil arrayed, pleased with dark ghosts that wander through the shade; Perseis, solitary goddess, hail!
